REMINDER: Due to the weather interruptions earlier this month, progress reports will be sent how with students on Friday, February 6, 2015.
Dear students and families,
We invite seniors and their parents/guardians to attend our Financial Aid Night on February 18 at 6:00 pm. We will meet in Room 106/108. Ancilla College will giving the presentation, and families will have the opportunity to fill out their FAFSA. Families should request a PIN # by visitinwww.pin.ed.gov. We look forward to a great turn out.
For the next several weeks we will be altering our classroom schedule for our junior high students. From February 2 through February 27, 2015, the junior high core classes (math, science, English, and social studies) will be aligned with the high school schedule. Those classes will be 47 minutes long. This will allow us to lengthen our resource period to provide extended remediation tutoring.
We have examined student data (grades, Acuity assessments, classroom assessments) and determined many of our students could benefit from additional teacher assistance in smaller groups. We have developed a schedule where students will rotate and receive the additional help they need in math and/or English. This is our attempt to ensure EVERY student has an opportunity to make academic growth.
The first part of ISTEP testing begins very soon. Our 7th and 8th graders will complete the applied skills portion of math on March 3 and the applied skills portion of English/Language Arts on March 4. The 7th graders will complete the applied skills section of social studies on March 5. We appreciate your support in stressing the importance of this testing to your children. We want them all to be successful!
Finally, I want to congratulate our Students of the Month for January: Kayleen Pinkham, Garrett Snodgrass, and Vanessa Smith. These students were identified for going above and beyond in exhibiting Trust, Respect, and Responsibility. We are all very proud of them! I would also like to congratulate math teacher Mr. Klinedinst for being identified as our Staff of the Month. He has worked hard this month assisting students in our building, so thank you for all you do to help be a positive influence on our students!
We still continue to move forward to meet the needs of all our students. And again, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We want to continue to partner with parents for student success.
"Through Trust, Respect, & Responsibility the staff, students, and parents will work cooperatively to create a learning environment for the success of all students."
Mr. Tim Pletcher
